Jeremy Lefroy will be participating this month in the discussions on the County Council’s ‘Zero Waste to Landfill’ document.
“The strategy of eliminating landfill through a combination of recycling and ‘energy from waste’ through incineration is the right one for Staffordshire. The incinerator in Hanford already converts nearly 200,000 tons of waste a year into 13MW of electricity, enough to power more than 10,000 homes and saving around 60,000 tons of coal annually. The County’s document proposes a second incinerator for the county and I support that. If possible, it needs to be a combined heat and power system providing district heating as this will improve its efficiency.
Eliminating landfill, recycling resources and generating energy from waste make a sound policy for the future.
I applaud the actions of the County Council in initiating this and Stafford Borough for supporting it.”
