The Post Office needs to offer a wider range of services

Jeremy has this week continued his fight for a wide range of Post Office services for local communities.

Mr Lefroy has campaigned to retain Post Office services in the constituency. He also took part in the successful campaign to persuade the previous Government to retain the Post Office Card Account.

This week, he asked the new Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Employment Relations, Consumer and Postal Affairs), EdDavey MP, what the Government’s plans were to increase services available within Post Offices. He also asked what plans there are to increase revenue streams for local Post Offices, including the creation of the Post Office bank.

Mr Davey responded by saying that he was committed to ensuring that post offices are allowed to offer a wide range of services in order to sustain the network, and that they are working with Post Office Ltd to develop new sources of revenue, including considering the case for a post office bank.

Mr Lefroy said: “A strong Post Office network is vital to ensure the sustainability of many of our rural and suburban communities that have already lost many vital services. To do this, the Post Office needs to be financially viable and the best way to do this is by creating new revenue streams. I will continue to pursue this matter and will be pushing for the establishment of the Post Office bank as soon as possible.”
