Stafford Town Amateur Boxing Club, based at the Emerald Club on Marston Road, was officially opened on 25th August.

The club is the brainchild of local police officer Andy Whitehall. In return for free boxing coaching, young people sign a voluntary contract with Andy and their parents agreeing to good behaviour.

They also agree to take part in community projects - litter picks, tree planting, gardening for the elderly and raising funds for orphans in Kenya.

Jeremy attended the opening and gave his full support to the club.

"Having just come back from taking a group of 21 fantastic young people from Staffordshire camping in Somerset last week, I was honoured to be at the offical opening of a club which enables young people to contribute much to their community.

"Andy Whitehall, Staffordshire Police and all their partners are to be congratulated on their work in Stone - where the first club was set up - and now Stafford."
