Jeremy welcomes new Stafford county councillors

Submitted by Jeremy on Mon, 2009-06-08 11:01.

All four Labour-held seats in Stafford were won by the Conservatives in the elections on June 4th. Every county councillor in Stafford constituency is now a Conservative.

Jeremy has congratulated the 4 new county councillors - Ray Barron, John Francis, Mark Heenan and Ivan Jennings.

"They have all worked very hard, not just in the few weeks running up to the election but over a long period. They have taken up local issues - bus routes, roads, the threat to Stafford's heritage - because they care about the future of Stafford.

"I am also pleased that two of our new councillors - Mark Heenan and Ivan Jennings - are under 30. It is important to encourage young people to play a full role in our council and I am glad that Conservatives are taking a lead."

Jeremy also congratulated Cllrs Len Bloomer, Veronica Downes, Rex Roberts OBE and Mark Winnington, all of whom were re-elected with sizeable majorities.
