Post Office alternatives neither 'nearby' nor 'convenient'

Great Bridgeford post office is threatened with closure. Post Office Ltd in their information state that there are two other branches which are 'nearby' and 'convenient - Trinity Fields (2.4 miles away) and Stone Road (2.7 miles away).

Ray Sutherland (pictured) - a local councillor for the area - and I decided to see how long a return trip to these branches would take using public transport.

The answer was 1 hour 20 minutes to Trinity Fields. That included 20 minutes of walking at a reasonable pace. A trip to Stone Road would have involved nearly 30 minutes of walking. The return journey would still take 1 hour and 20 minutes as the bus service is hourly.

For those without cars and especially people who find difficulty in walking, these alternative branches are neither 'nearby' nor 'convenient'.

This evidence will form part of our submission to the Post Office opposing the closure.
