The decision by Staffordshire’s county cabinet to retain 75 county farms instead of the original plans to keep only 20 has been welcomed by Jeremy Lefroy.
Jeremy, who took part in the campaign to save the farms and made a submission to the consultation on their future, said:
“This is good news. Labour has finally acknowledged the importance of the county farms to the economy in Staffordshire and in particular the role they play in helping our young people come into farming.
“Recent news about tightening food supplies has also underlined the strategic importance of food production for the UK.
“The fight to save a proper county farms service, led by the Staffordshire smallholder farmers, the NFU and the Conservative Group on the County Council, will be remembered as a critical turning point in the fortunes of our county’s agriculture.”
